Science Fiction Writing Prompts are part of the National Poetry Month Challenge to write a short story or poem story in 200 or less characters.

In full wet suit, his hand gloved, Jussi carefully swished a poisonous nudibranch, basically a sea slug, into a collection bag. Two days later, he smiled at a Finnish newspaper headline, “1 SCUBA Diver Dead, 1 in Hospital Cause Unknown.”

Science: Ten remarkable new marine species discovered in 2020. Among them is the Yellow Sea Slug of Ørland: Dendronotus yrjargul. “This sea slug was first noticed and photographed in 2014 by SCUBA diver Kjetil Johnson in Trondheimsfjorden, one of the largest Fjords in Norway.” ―LifeWatch Belgium.

Every year, new species of animals, plants, insects, sea creatures, and birds are being discovered. Write a story about a new species that is real or made up with characteristics or powers that are real or made up.
