The Vowels in Moses’ Horns

“Moses” in Spanish Sign Language
signed a man speaking
standing arms raised
like the statue by Michelangelo
as well a person with horns
visible in the famous statue
based on a Latin Vulgate translation
and many Catholic translations from the 1950's

Jerome, the translator working from Hebrew
without “niqquds” (marks signifying vowels)
interpreted the Hebrew letter קרו (k-r-n)
קֶ֫רֶן “Keren“ horned
rather than קָרַו “Karan“ radiance
describing Moses’ head
as he descends from Mount Sinai
