Languages of Calabria, Italy (Standard Italian; Calabrian, Calabrese, Calabria (Romance varieties a strong dialect continuum spoken in Calabria, Italy. Southern Calabrian dialects, Central-Southern Calabrian, Calabro, Extreme Southern Italian, Italiano meridionale-estremo, closely related to Sicilian. Northern Calabrian dialects, Northern Calabrian, Cosentian classified typologically with Neapolitan, Napoletano-Calabrese. The Amantea-Cirò line is generally considered an approximate demarcation between the Neapolitan and Sicilian language groups similar to Medieval times with Calabria Citeriore or Latin Calabria and Calabria Ulteriore or Greek Calabria; and 100,000 Arbëresh-Albanian speakers; small numbers of Calabrian Greek; and Occitan speakers.
